Milan is widely celebrated as Italy’s sleek fashion capital – a cosmopolitan contrast to the countryside charm of Florence or Puglia. But within the city’s bustling center is Brera: a slice of residential paradise with cobblestone streets and culture.

Now an acclaimed boutique hotel, Casa Baglioni is housed in a historic 1913 Art Nouveau building. The interiors celebrate 1960s Milanese art and design with just 30 rooms. On the main floor is a one-Michelin-starred restaurant along with an exclusive underground wine cellar that will blow any restaurant you have to leave the property for out of the water.

Design & Character

The design direction was led by Milanese architecture firm Spagnulo & Partners. Upon your first steps into the hotel, you’ll come to learn many areas of tradition within hospitality were thrown out the window – and for the better. There’s no traditional lobby, rather the welcome area resembles more of a living room, and check-in happens on one of the plush couches or chairs scattered throughout. The process feels formal as you’re guided from the moment your car pulls up to the curb, but nothing about it feels stuffy.

Artwork by Italian Spatialist masters including Agostino Bonalumi, Enrico Castellani, and Lucio Fontana hangs proudly from the walls. Custom furnishings, Rubelli wallpapers, Dedar fabrics, and bathroom fixtures by Zucchetti – all artists who were central figures in the postwar Milanese art scene – allow a breath of fresh air to fill the space. The palette of warm tones, brass details, and herringbone parquet floors elevates what might otherwise feel like a dated lobby into a refined, character-filled space.

The Rooms

Room options vary for a reason, because no group should have to conform to a space that’s simply too small. Casa Baglioni is proud to offer 10 distinct room and suite categories from Superior Rooms to the 1,216 sq. ft. Brera Presidential Suite. The square footage and bed count might flex, but the luxury never slacks. Gourmet coffee, top-shelf amenities, and crisp turndown service are strictly non-negotiable. Acqua di Parma toiletries, ILLY coffee machines, extendable Smart TVs, complimentary breakfast, and a welcome bottle of wine will be available to groups of any size. The bathrooms feature premium marble with double sinks, and rainfall showers or deep soaking tubs.

For larger families, connecting rooms are available with two-bedroom family suite layouts – or opt for the Brera Presidential Suite featuring a private furnished outdoor area if needed.

The Food & Drink

There are two especially notable dining experiences on the property: Ristorante Sadler and the Wine Cellar.

To say Ristorante Sadler is exceptional is a vast understatement. Helmed by Chef Claudio Sadler’s culinary genius, the cuisine takes on traditional Milanese and regional Italian elements, while simultaneously defying what a traditional Italian meal might look like. The plates are creative – an art form in their own way. Open for lunch and dinner, trust me, missing out on a table during your stay is practically a crime

The convenient underground wine cellar is open for private wine tastings that feature an extensive list of Italian and international vintages. For a cocktail paired with views of the Duomo and Milan’s teeming geometric streets, head to the seasonal rooftop bar for a Campari spritz.

The Brera District is known as the design and gallery quarter, so it’s only fitting an address as glamorous as Casa Baglioni is situated within it. The surrounding landscape is adorned with cobblestone streets, artisan boutiques and outdoor cafes where your morning patio espresso dreams can come true. The culture and art experiences within walking distance are plentiful, Pinacoteca di Brera, Teatro alla Scala, and Sforza Castle to name just a few.

And absolutely do not discount the Duomo di Milano. No matter how strongly one might feel about tourist traps, this wonder of the world is not one.
