Why it works
Set the Scene
Less than an hour from Manhattan, Delamar Greenwich Harbor has all the makings of an easy spa-day escape. The 82-room hotel sits directly on Greenwich Harbor, with a private marina, water views, and downtown Greenwich just steps away.
But the spa is reason enough to make the trip.
With only three treatment rooms, the Spa at Delamar Greenwich Harbor is small, elegant, and intimate. Tucked away inside the hotel, it could easily qualify as an insider secret—except it isn't one. Appointments book up months in advance, fueled by an intensely loyal local clientele. Some regulars come weekly for massages; others return every month for facials.
The spa was founded by Georgette Culucundis Mallory, whose approach to skincare was shaped by time spent in Lausanne, Switzerland, as a teenager and later by visits to renowned esthetician Georgette Klinger in New York. Her philosophy was straightforward: facials and good skincare shouldn't be occasional indulgences, but part of an ongoing routine.
That thinking still drives the spa today. Its facial program features four top-tier European skincare brands, each with a different specialty: French cult favorite Biologique Recherche; Valmont, known for its decadent Swiss cellular cosmetics; Caudalie, the Bordeaux-born brand that taps antioxidant-rich ingredients from grapevines; and German medical skincare line MBR, the newest addition.
Technology gets plenty of play, too. The Delamar IONIX Light Facial is a multi-step treatment combining diamond dermabrasion, oxygen infusion, ultrasound, LED, and microcurrent, while the Elevate with ELEVAI treatment pairs microneedling with a concentrated serum containing exosomes, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and ceramides. For a spa with such a petite footprint, the skincare menu packs a serious punch.
The Treatment
Per usual, I went straight for the 90-minute deep tissue massage.
My therapist didn't stick to one technique. She combined deep muscle work with shiatsu, reflexology, and stretching, moving between modalities depending on what my body needed. The result was a dynamic treatment that was restorative without sacrificing relaxation.
The stretching was especially effective, opening up tight areas before she worked more deeply into my muscles, while shiatsu pressure points and reflexology added another dimension. And the effects lasted. My muscles were still noticeably looser a week later—about as convincing an endorsement for a massage as I can give.
Don't rush home afterward. A post-spa meal at l'escale, the hotel's waterfront restaurant, is a must. The dining room and seasonal terrace overlook the harbor and private marina, but this isn't simply a pretty hotel restaurant. It's a lively Greenwich fixture filled with regulars, with the food to match.
The French- and Mediterranean-inspired menu runs from salads and burgers to more composed seafood and meat dishes, backed by a strong wine and cocktail list. Grab a table overlooking the water, order a drink, and extend your spa day a little longer.
