Hotel Snapshot

Set on a sprawling 240-acre estate just a 45-minute drive from London, Coworth Park dates back to 1776. Originally owned by William Shepheard, it later passed through the hands of aristocrats, including the Earl of Derby and the owner of Selfridges, who added polo grounds and stables in the 1980s. Now part of the Dorchester Collection—which includes The Dorchester in London and The Beverly Hills Hotel—the five-star countryside refuge is an ideal weekend escape for outdoor pursuits, spa days, and seasonal dining. Whether it’s horse racing, castle hopping, or idyllic strolls that draw you to Berkshire, guests can expect a warm welcome, doting service, and plenty of opportunities to unwind.

Design & Character

Tucked inside a grand Georgian mansion, converted stables, and accompanying stone structures, Coworth Park looks like the very picture of an upscale English countryside retreat. It’s well coiffed but without putting on airs. Interiors, designed by residential specialists Fox Linton Associates, are respectably relaxed with lived-in luxury furnishings, sumptuous textiles, English smoked oak floors, and bespoke rugs. The circular stairwell in the main house provides a contemporary counterbalance to the centuries-old legacy of its hearths and halls. Many public and private quarters are warmed by fireplaces and decorated with nature-inspired art and subtle equestrian accents.

As with all the most impressive country compounds, so much of the appeal lies outside the walls and windows. Coworth Park has grassy lawns and meandering pathways, reflecting pools punctuated by bronze statues, sunken gardens, meadows full of wildflowers, and shaded benches to sit in stillness.

The Rooms

Coworth Park has 49 rooms and 22 suites spread across the Mansion House, the converted stables, and the cottages. The accommodations are exactly what you’d expect of The Dorchester’s country counterpart: residential, plush and polished but cozy and relaxed enough to drop your boots by the door before warming up by the open fire or taking a soak in a copper roll-top tub before slumping into a four-poster bed for a peaceful slumber.

Food & Drink

Gastronomy ranks among the many highlights of a stay at Coworth Park. Michelin-starred Woven by Adam Smith is renowned for its modern British cuisine. Though that’s far from the only spot to enjoy an excellent meal. The Barn serves seasonal fare, such as tomato salad and Waterford Farm chateaubriand, in the dining room and on the terrace. There’s a fire-warmed lounge for savoring afternoon tea or a casual dinner (we’d suggest the signature club sandwich and a glass of bubbly). The spa café offers post-massage sustenance, such as smoothies and salads. The bar mixes up craft cocktails like the signature Coworth Chukka made with Sapling vodka, elderflower, and lemon.
