Hotel Snapshot at Finca La Bobadilla

Originally opened in 1985 as a restaurant, Finca La Bobadilla is now a secluded, 73-room, five-star hotel set on roughly 865 acres in the countryside between Málaga and Granada. Recently reopened following a design-forward renovation by Único Hotels, the property, now part of the Leading Hotels of the World, was designed to resemble an Andalusian village, with whitewashed buildings, courtyards, gardens, and olive groves.

There are luxury hotels that are designed to disappear into the landscape, and then there is Finca La Bobadilla. Spread across more than 865 acres of olive groves, oak trees, gardens, and rolling Andalusian countryside, the property comes across more like the refined estate of a dear friend than a hotel. Its architecture draws on the visual language of an Andalusian pueblo blanco with arched passageways, tiled roofs, courtyards, fountains, and winding paths connecting one space to the next.

The appeal is partly the setting: Finca La Bobadilla is a convenient base for exploring southern Spain while still feeling deliberately removed from it. But you don't really need to leave. Horseback rides through olive groves, cycling trails, pools, tennis and padel, a spa, and a trio of restaurants help the estate function as a destination in its own right.

Design & Character at Finca La Bobadilla

Whitewashed buildings, Mudejar-inspired details, terracotta floors, arches, courtyards, fountains, and small plazas create a sense of discovery as guests move through the property. The recent renovation by Único Hotels retains that regional vocabulary while adding a more contemporary layer. Local paintings, ceramics, textiles, and other craft elements reinforce the connection to Andalusia.

The 73 rooms and suites are spacious and individually varied, with views toward the gardens or surrounding countryside and private terraces or patios. Deluxe Rooms feature bathtubs, Egyptian cotton sheets, Nespresso machines, and 24-hour room service. Suites measure considerably larger, some clocking in over 1,000 square feet—the size of a modest one-bedroom in New York CIty.

Dining is rooted in Andalusian ingredients, with copious amounts of the hotel’s olive oil accompanying every meal alongside produce from the on-site garden. The hotel's culinary program was recently reworked as part of the property's reopening: La Jara is the more intimate, adults-oriented dinner restaurant, with cuisine from chef Óscar Velasco and his team; El Cortijo offers a more relaxed setting centered on traditional and seasonal flavors; and El Mirador serves lighter fare beside the pool. Bar La Plaza handles cocktails and tapas.

The Amenities at Finca La Bobadilla

Flow Spa includes a heated indoor pool, Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, contrast showers, gym, and treatment rooms using Natura Bissé products. Outdoors, guests have access to three pools, including a spacious pool area as well as tennis, padel, pickleball, bicycles, and guided horseback excursions through the estate. There are also five signposted cycling routes, yoga, hiking trails, and family activities.

Finca La Bobadilla is nestled in the Sierra de Loja between Málaga and Granada. Málaga Airport is approximately 50 minutes away, while Granada and Córdoba are less than an hour by car. The property is particularly well positioned for a larger Andalusian itinerary: Granada, Málaga, Córdoba, Ronda, and the Costa del Sol can all be incorporated into a stay. For travelers who want to explore, the rural position provides a quieter alternative to staying in the cities; for those who don't, the 865-acre estate provides plenty of incentives to remain on property.
