Why it works

Hotel Snapshot

Hotel Figueroa is one of the city’s most storied properties. The DTLA landmark opened as a women-only hostelry in 1926, serving as a safe space for female patrons wanting to travel without a male chaperone. For 100 years, Hotel Figueroa has been a haven for bohemian artists, activists, and other creatives looking to make their dreams a reality in Hollywood. All 268 rooms have been thoughtfully restored, maintaining the building's Spanish Colonial bones and Mediterranean influences.

Design & Character

A Mediterranean Revival blueprint allows Hotel Figueroa to feel historic and polished, with design-forward details like arched doorways, warm plaster walls, patterned tiles, and plenty of greenery throughout the common spaces. However, rather than leaning entirely into its 100-year-old identity, the hotel also incorporates an ever-changing selection of contemporary art with rotating exhibitions by both emerging and established female artists—a fitting tribute to the property’s founding principles.

The Rooms

With 268 rooms and suites spread across 14 floors, Hotel Figueroa feels intimate, but spread out just enough. A similar Spanish-inspired character carries over from the common spaces, but with a more refined personality. Think neutral color palettes, warm wooden accents, and vintage decor. However, the signature suites take comfort to the next level. The King Bed Figueroa Suite, for example, boasts a glass-enclosed rain shower, a separate sitting parlor, and a private balcony overlooking the bustling streets below.

The Food & Drink

Despite its boutique nature, Hotel Figueroa has a surprisingly solid amount of food and beverage options. Café Fig focuses on farm-fresh ingredients across breakfast, lunch, and weekend brunch. Adjacent Bar Magnolia occupies the lobby with a Euro-esque setting featuring sky-high ceilings with industrial skylights and two-tiered chandeliers. The latter is particularly fun for happy hour, which happens Monday through Friday from 3 pm to 6 pm.

The main restaurant—which is located past the main lobby and cafe and next to the coffin-shaped pool—has gone through a few different iterations over the last five years. Currently, the team behind L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele is occupying the space with Florence by the Water. In addition to a few different versions of the restaurant’s famous Neapolitan-style pies, guests can also enjoy an array of Italian bites like Wagyu meatballs, handmade pastas, and protein-forward entrées such as chicken milanese.

Amenities

The obvious star of the show is the hotel's famous coffin-shaped swimming pool, which is hidden within a lush courtyard surrounded by decades-old cacti and vibrant bougainvillea. It is the only ground-level hotel pool in DTLA, allowing guests to feel surprisingly removed from the surrounding skyscrapers and blaring traffic just outside the property walls. There's also a 24-hour fitness center along with the option to reserve private yoga classes and personal trainers.

Location & Neighborhood Recs

Hotel Figueroa sits in one of DTLA’s most convenient pockets for all things entertainment. Crypto.com Arena, L.A. LIVE, and the Los Angeles Convention Center are all within walking distance, placing guests in the middle of high-profile sporting events and concerts. Beyond the immediate neighborhood, you’ll find museums like The Broad, a plethora of dining options at nearby Grand Central Market, and other historic and architectural landmarks like the Bradbury Building.
