Hotel La Corada is a 28-room boutique hotel located steps from the historic Plaza Mayor in Villa de Leyva, Colombia’s largest 16th-century cobblestone square. This renovated boutique hotel has preserved the traditional colonial-style architecture while offering modern amenities, comforts, and service. Whitewashed facades, exposed brick, and wooden balconies overlooking the square add to its colonial charm.
Many boutique hotels tend to be family-tolerant at best, however Hotel La Corada was different. Not only do they have a family suite that does not skip out on comfort or detail, but they also offer children’s massages and facials at their spa, as well as a 24-hour game room where the kids can play while the adults relax. It is an incredible historic boutique hotel where luxury doesn’t break the bank.
Design & Character
Retaining much of traditional Colombian design elements, like the stunning interior courtyard and careful restoration of the original wood, Hotel La Corada is a well-executed balance between colonial and modern luxury. Walking into the hotel, the cobblestone seems to extend from the exterior Plaza Mayor into the first of two interior courtyards and along the first floor of the property. Stone archways frame the hallways and rooms, bridging the past and present design elements together. Hotel La Corada feels so much like a traditional colonial home that even the front desk blends in seamlessly into the design you almost would not know it was there.
The Rooms
There are 28 rooms throughout two floors of the hotel, providing an intimate experience during each stay. Each room is mindfully decorated with simple, yet elevated decor. The Family Suite is the best room in the house, 3 full-sized beds, 2 sofas, and a private courtyard offering space for families and larger groups.
The Food & Drink
Cuatro Nudos is the in-house restaurant on the second floor with completely modern design and elevated dishes. The outdoor seating area overlooks the plaza below, which, without a doubt, is the best seat in the house and the best view in all of Plaza Mayor. Breakfast is included in each stay offering fresh local fruit and Colombian tinto to start your day.
Amenities
Included in your stay is access to both the dry sauna and Turkish steam room, perfect to unwind after a day navigating the cobblestone streets. Forget your regular massage or facial (though, those are available), upgrade your experience with a chocolate massage or facial that is both enjoyable and delicious.
Location & Neighborhood
Villa de Leyva is very walkable with rich history around every corner. The entire town sits on an ancient sea bed, and today is known for the perfectly preserved Kronosaurus dinosaur fossil. Visit the Museum of Chocolate (Museo de Chocolate) for a real life Willy Wonka experience, or the Mercado Municipal and support local artisan shops.
