Aside from the Space Needle, Seattle’s most iconic landmark is, arguably, Pike Place Market. Known for its theatrical fishmongers, artisan crafts, and rows of fresh-picked, technicolor flowers, the seaside haunt is a nucleus of activity, agriculture, and entrepreneurship, luring in nearly 10 million visitors each year.

Surprisingly, the popular attraction’s only on-site hotel is a boutique hideaway that embodies the laid-back pace, natural beauty, and trademark geniality of the Pacific Northwest. The Inn at the Market, which underwent a multi-million dollar renovation in 2025, has welcomed guests for nearly four decades. With a mission to feel like an extension of the market, sans the chaos of tourists afoot, it has become a relaxing, sought-after stay for anyone in need of a cozy respite from sightseeing in a major city.

Design & Character

The property’s lobby sets the scene with paneled ceilings, abstract artwork, marble-trimmed tables, and an inviting fireplace. Open breezeways to rooms allow for ocean winds to carry the nearby scents of blooming florals, fresh-caught seafood, and seasonal produce into its corridors, while a postcard-worthy rooftop terrace — the hotel’s crown jewel — is a place to sip morning coffee and take in a sunset with wine. The vantage point provides unobstructed views of a boat-streaked Elliott Bay, the layered Olympic Mountains, and the bustling market below. It is also a space that is exclusive to hotel guests and fitted with fire pits for year-round enjoyment.

The Rooms

Rooms are intentionally understated to allow sights of Puget Sound from floor-to-ceiling windows to make the biggest impression. Color palettes draw inspiration from Seattle’s famously nature-forward landscape with aqua walls, timber floors and furniture, as well as photography depicting local flora and fauna. Amenities also include a Nespresso coffee machine with a curated honor bar, turndown service, and oversized bathrooms to easily accommodate couples and small families.

The Food & Drink

Though its three courtyard-adjacent restaurants operate independently from the hotel, they’re easily accessible and frequented by hotel guests for last-minute meals. Cafe Campagne, located in Post Alley, serves up an array of French fare, including hearty cassoulet and classic steak frites, while Bacco is renowned for its all-day breakfast with a Dungeness crab eggs benedict as its star.

But it’s Sushi Kashiba that earns most of the accolades with three-time James Beard nominee Chef Shiro Kashiba at the helm. Guests can partake in a 19-bite omakase experience with each sampling just as memorable as the next, coursed by fish type to showcase its unique flavor profiles, edible sections, and ability to transform while utilizing classic Japanese culinary techniques.

Of course, a meander through Pike Place’s shops is a daily necessity for its abundance of quick bites (macaroni and cheese from Beecher’s and an almond croissant from Le Panier are highlights), but for a special occasion, Charlotte Restaurant and Lounge at the nearby Lotte hotel has become a local favorite. The establishment touts windowside dining, cleverly-concocted beverages, and a seasonally-dictated menu with dishes like rustic rye bread with honeycomb, salt-baked beet salad, and a tamari-braised dino short rib. It’s also an ideal locale for events and parties, with two private rooms perched 16 floors above.

Location & Neighborhood Recs

Nearby Smith Tower makes for a quick, yet informative day tour, contextualizing the historical building that was once the tallest skyscraper west of the Mississippi. Once guests reach the observatory at the top and take in the panoramic views around its perimeter, a stop for a libation, meal, or “boozy afternoon tea” is a must. Though its cocktail menu is entertaining and robust, take a gamble and opt for the bartender’s choice to craft a drink around your favorite spirit and flavors. Supplement it with dumplings, a charcuterie board, and spicy deviled eggs to really please the palate.

Other Seattle must-sees, aside from the aforementioned Space Needle and, of course, Pike Place Market, include Pioneer Square for its ivy-laced, art-filled alleys, the Fremont Troll for a selfie, the Museum of Pop Culture for its 80,000-plus artifacts, and Chihuly Garden and Glass for the dramatic sculptures in practically every hue.

Visitors would also be remiss to not take advantage of Seattle’s many hikes and strolls, including the more challenging Rattlesnake Ledge or more leisurely Hoh Rain Forest. Parks are also widely acclaimed with waterside Discovery Park, view-heavy Kerry Park, and forested Seward Park as standouts.

Seattle has been dubbed “The Emerald City,” after all. (Wicked witches not included.)
