Hotel Snapshot at Neptune

Neptune, an Ash Hotel occupies 122 Fountain Street, a building with a decidedly colorful Providence past. Dating to 1912, the property has lived several lives over the decades — from an Episcopal mission and shelter to a series of small hotels and residential rooms, and later, more unexpectedly, an adult entertainment venue.

From 2012 to 2014, ASH NYC (Ash Hotels’ design-and-development firm) and Kite Architects Inc. reimagined the historic structure as The Dean Hotel: a 52-room boutique hotel retaining traces of its past while introducing local art and custom furnishings. Enter its final phase in 2025: Neptune, with renovated rooms and common areas as well as four distinct food and beverage concepts.

Design & Character at Neptune

Neptune reflects Ash Hotels’ knack for transforming historic buildings into highly individual stays that feel rooted in their surroundings rather than stamped from a big-name hospitality template.

Within their Providence flagship, guests can expect custom-made furniture, original artwork, vintage finds, and plenty of old-world antiques. Crisp linens top the beds, amenities are curated with contemporary travelers’ ideals in mind, and bathrooms boast sleek black tiling. The aesthetic is polished but not overly precious, with an eclectic mix of eras and textures that give every space a collected, lived-in feel. It’s a fitting approach for a city that’s never been particularly interested in predictability.

Accommodations range from The Kin – an intimate room with twin bunk beds – to The Classmates, which sleeps four, while The Patron and The King offer more traditional configurations.

For larger groups, The Guardian Suite includes a king bed and seating for six, while The Heights occupies the hotel’s private top floor with four interconnected rooms, two sitting areas, and four bathrooms.

Dining at Neptune spans morning coffee to late-night cocktails, with a few exceptional detours in between.

Mémère’s brings a French-accented take on French-Canadian tradition and New England seasonality, with bistro classics alongside seafood and vegetable-forward plates. Neptune Café serves coffee, tea, and pastries, which are best enjoyed while browsing one of the many magazines and newspapers from the hotel’s daily and monthly circulations.

The European-leaning Neptune Cocktail Lounge finds its groove come the weekend, and then there’s The Boombox. In Ash Hotels’ delightful bemusement with unexpected hospitality moments, guests are granted priority access to Providence’s first and only karaoke bar, inspired by Tokyo’s and Seoul’s nightlife scenes.

The Amenities at Neptune

Neptune keeps the practicalities pleasingly simple, with complimentary WiFi, daily housekeeping, 24-hour front desk service, private self-parking, and pet-friendly accommodations. Guests also have access to concierge assistance for local recommendations and insider information. For a hotel that encourages exploration, it’s a pleasure to have a team ready to point you toward the coolest under-the-radar experiences amidst a sea of artful options.

The Location & Neighborhood Recs at Neptune

The hotel’s central location makes it easy to explore Providence on foot, with some of the city’s major sites all within a short walk. In other words, pack comfortable shoes and leave room in the itinerary for distractions.

Find unique gifts from local artisans in practically every shop along Westminster Street, catch a show at the Providence Performing Arts Center, and pause to admire the views on the Riverwalk. For a dose of Providence’s creative side, The Steel Yard is also nearby, while the pubs and shops lining Benefit, Wickenden, and Thayer Streets offer further reasons to keep wandering. Plus, don’t let the line scare you away – The Nitro Bar is well worth the hype.
