Florence will always hold special meaning for me. I’m undeniably biased after spending a couple of months studying abroad there in 2023, and while I thought I knew the city inside and out, Palazzo Firenze respectfully proved me wrong. My Florence was cobblestone strolls, morning walks along Viale Michelangelo, and pistachio gelato from Vivoli. But studying there meant I completely missed Italy’s luxury side: the ultra-attentive, effortless hospitality.

Fresh from a renovation, Palazzo Firenze occupies an 18th-century residence in Santa Croce. With just 24 rooms and suites, the hotel feels like a private residence rather than one of the neighborhood's larger traditional hotels. It positions itself as an ideal base for travelers hungry for Florence’s history on the doorstep, without sacrificing the comfort of a polished hotel.

And by history on the doorstep, I mean that wholeheartedly. The Basilica di Santa Croce is a two-minute walk away, and from many third-floor rooms, the Duomo can be spotted right outside the window.

Design & Character

The central design tension sets original frescoes and late-Baroque details alongside modernist furniture, bringing the spaces firmly into the present. The completed renovation wasn’t a full historical restoration, but a successful refresh of the rooms and communal spaces that preserves the building’s heritage.

The grand public rooms will leave you breathless. The property’s centerpiece is Sala della Musica, a regal room with soaring ceilings and a sleek piano in the corner. Used for musical aperitifs, every detail in the space is intentional and immaculate.

The interior palette is dominated by stone grays, soft creams, and muted ochre, contrasted with deep teal, peacock blue, and green upholstery. Modern Italian furniture maintains a low profile so as not to obstruct sightlines to the ceilings, frescoes, or fireplaces. Velvets and linens mix with marble and pietra serena sandstone, while classical portraits and Renaissance wall motifs sit alongside contemporary art and bronze sculptures.

The Rooms

With just 24 rooms and suites, Palazzo Firenze is a true boutique lover's paradise. Accommodations range from Deluxe Rooms to the 2,800-square-foot Santa Croce Royal Suite. Amenities across all tiers include Acqua di Parma bath products, Illy coffee machines, welcome wine, a minibar, and turndown service.

If your party feels most comfortable in a suite, the living areas and stronger residential feel provide more than enough space, while an especially attentive staff ensures every need is met. Multiple living rooms, double sinks, and deep soaking tubs allow you to feel completely at ease when you arrive home after a day in the streets.

The Food & Drink

Guelfi and Ghibellini Restaurant serves traditional Tuscan and Mediterranean cuisine. The cooking is remarkably precise: velvety chicken liver pâté, perfectly seared beef, and risotto, each dish elevated by rich Chiantis and local wines.

Just before the restaurant is Guelfi and Ghibellini Bar, the perfect spot to wind down after the day or enjoy a quick drink before dinner. Known for Italian-style aperitivo, wine, and gourmet coffee, the bar has a pick-me-up for any time of day.

Breakfast is served daily from 7 to 11 a.m. in the main restaurant and is included with your stay.
