Hotel Snapshot

Following the success of Populus Denver, Populus Seattle remains grounded in true Seattle fashion to stay carbon-positive by adaptively reusing the historic Westland Building, a heavy timber warehouse of 1907. Though vintage, the atmosphere is far from dated. Elevated energy and subtle earthy accents give the design a nature-inspired feel.

Exposed, century-old bricks and beams bring character to the interior, embodying Populus’s promise to pair luxury with sustainable design. Pushing this notion even further is the hotel’s planting of a tree for every stay and their ongoing dedication towards zero food waste.

Design & Character

Local architecture firm, The Miller Hull Partnership, took on the property’s renovation with the vision of transforming the 6-story Edwardian warehouse into a sanctuary of natural light and indoor plants that enhance the nature-forward vibe even more. The focal point of the hotel is the garden sky court, a central lightwell the design team expanded and topped with a massive skylight to pull in natural light and air down into the core of the building.

The interiors are warm and welcoming, but feel intentionally restrained. Combining light and dark woods with lush greenery, the design subtly honors Seattle’s timber and maritime history through thoughtful historic accents.

The Rooms

Holding just 120 keys, the hotel promotes feeling cozy and quiet amongst other downtown hotels that don’t feel as personal. The original oversized windows allow for light to flood into the accommodations, which vary between Lupine King and Alder King to the Cedar Corner King, Douglas Fir Studio King, and Noble Fir Studio King, each with views varying from Pioneer Square's historic brick buildings, downtown Seattle, and Elliott Bay depending on the room category. The rooms embrace a lived-in elegance, with natural materials like considered woodwork and millwork, to produce an effortlessly residential space.

The Food & Drink

The property offers three food and drink options. Salt Harvest, the hotel’s signature restaurant, delivers local Pacific Northwest cuisine through regenerative farming principles that generate zero waste. Firn is the rooftop bar and lounge surrounded by jaw-dropping panoramic views of Elliott bay and the Pioneer Square skyline—it’s the perfect spot for a sunset cocktail whether you’re a guest of the hotel or not. The ground floor espresso counter, The Café at Populus, is the casual coffee pick-me-up spot brewing locally roasted coffee.
