Housed within the former Bavarian State Bank headquarters and the adjacent aristocratic residence of Palais Neuhaus-Preysing, Rosewood Munich highlights the rich history of Munich’s old town from the second you enter. With a location that’s steps away from the Marienplatz, the main square in the city center, it’s the perfect stay for first-time (or returning) visitors who want to explore Munich’s old town.
Its facade, central courtyard, and treasures throughout were masterfully renovated, ranging from a grand marble staircase to preserved frescoes. The restoration masterfully merges the historical significance of the two buildings with the modern furniture, color scheme, and room designs of the brand’s debut German property.
The hotel has 73 rooms and suites, offering ample privacy and space in the middle of the historic German city. Each room feels elegant without sacrificing modernity with artwork from local artists, standalone soaking tubs, marble showers, heated bathroom floors, and a bevy of warm tones in hues like yellows, browns, and beiges. The suites, called houses, are each named and inspired by Bavaria’s royal family. They offer a more residential style of living with their own distinct design and butler service. For instance, one has a suspended glass bridge connecting the living areas with views over the city.
Onsite, two courtyards were restored from the original palace. The Palaishof is a relaxing outdoor courtyard space, and the Wintergarten is a cozy interior spot. Both serve as casual dining venues but were historically a place for socializing and relaxing. Each was designed with a color palette inspired by Bauhaus principles with details like a neutral color palette, simple handcrafted wood furniture, cozy outdoor heat lamps, and lots of greenery.
Other culinary offerings are served in the full-service brasserie, Brasserie Cuvilliés, and drinks are freshly shaken at the sleek Bar Montez. Brasserie Cuvilliés has a menu inspired by Bavarian cuisine with options like Spinach Spaetzle, Wiener Schnitzel, and Venison Goulash on the menu. After indulging in the Alpine-inspired dishes, grab one of the signature cocktails as a nightcap with the backdrop of live music in Bar Montez.
After a day out exploring the city, it’s worth spending a few hours in the almost 14,000-square-foot Asaya Spa. It takes over two floors and offers custom treatments inspired by German nature alongside an indoor pool, saunas, herbal steam room, and a state-of-the-art fitness center with Technogym equipment.
