The Cliff Hotel: $15,000 Toilets, Clifftop Dining, and the Best Sunset in Negril

A five-acre West End retreat pairs 22 rooms and suites, four private villas, dramatic Caribbean cliffs, sunset reggae, and one very extravagant bathroom upgrade.

Mighty yet serene, Negril’s cliffs appeal to travelers looking for Jamaica at its softer, calmer pace.

Why it works

Hotel Snapshot

The Cliff Hotel is home to 22 guest rooms and suites and four luxury villas on Negril’s West End, with rates starting from $356 per night. The five-acre oceanfront property sits among the cliffs, trading Jamaica’s sandy shoreline for intimate views over the Caribbean Sea.

Jamaica is famous for turquoise water and beaches, but beyond Seven Mile Beach the landscape shifts into dramatic cliffs. The Cliff Hotel leans into that quieter side of Negril with luxe accommodations, elevated cuisine, private-butler service, and sunset serenades that make the property feel both polished and deeply rooted in place.

Design & Character

The open-air lobby frames the Caribbean from the moment you arrive. Photographs on the walls nod to local heroes and visiting musicians, including Leon Bridges and Pharrell Williams, while guest rooms arc around the main pool and gardens. Down by the sea, the Cliff Deck bar adds dramatic stonework to the setting, and a dimly lit grotto turns private dining and massages into golden-hour experiences.

The Rooms

Guests can choose among 22 rooms and suites and four villas, with resort or ocean views, terraces or verandas, and select accommodations with private pools. Interiors keep the focus on the landscape with white linens, coastal tones, and fixtures carved from island wood.

Recent renovations have added one particularly extravagant talking point to the one-bedroom suites: $15,000 Neorest luxury smart toilets. It is an unexpectedly high-tech flourish in rooms otherwise designed to feel calm and understated.

The Food & Drink

Clifftop dining takes center stage at The Restaurant at The Cliff Hotel, where simple décor leaves the Caribbean views to do most of the talking. Sliding glass doors open toward the cliffs, with boats idling offshore and waves moving below.

Breakfast and dinner are especially appealing on the patio. Guests can start with a classic American breakfast or Jamaican staples such as ackee and saltfish, while jerk chicken wraps and hearty oxtails anchor later meals. For sunset dinner, the grotto is the coveted reservation: a private dining space with limited availability that is worth booking well ahead. Around the main pool, more casual plates and the swim-up bar keep things easy with jerk chicken and a cold Red Stripe.

The Amenities

The Cliff Hotel gets the big resort basics right, including a pool, spa, fitness center, free parking, twice-daily room service, childcare, and a swim-up bar. But the memorable pieces are more experiential: private cliffside dining, a translucent saltwater pool made for wading, and the daily rhythm of drinks and live music at the Cliff Deck bar.

Special events often gather guests beneath the property’s central almond tree, where libations flow and live reggae becomes part of the evening rather than mere background music.

Spa & Wellness

A dedicated spa and fitness facility cover the traditional wellness bases, while massages can also move closer to the sea in the dimly lit grotto. It is a setting that makes the property’s quiet, mindful side feel especially convincing.

Location & Neighborhood Recs

The hotel sits on West End Road in Negril’s cliffside district, surrounded by resorts, restaurants, and destinations known for diving, snorkeling, and sunset dining. About two miles away, Rick’s Cafe draws visitors for cliff diving, live reggae, and its own famous sunset scene. Seven Mile Beach is about a 10-minute taxi ride away, while Rockhouse Restaurant, Negril Lighthouse, and Joseph’s Cave are also nearby.
