The sheer volume of details to be absorbed makes five nights feel almost insufficient, for the Imaret cannot be compared to any other place in Greece.
Design & Character
Constructed in the 19th century, the Imaret is a monumental work of late Ottoman architecture, faithfully restored by Anna. The legacy of Kavala native Mohammed Ali Pasha, the founder of modern Egypt, it boasts a spectacular roof of lead domes and distinctive chimneys. Beneath are marble and stone-vaulted arcades that frame the inner courtyards and gardens. Playful floral motifs, delicate stonework, and Arabic inscriptions abound, creating a picturesque and atmospheric setting.
The Rooms
There are eight suites across 5,000 square meters, accommodating a maximum of 16 guests. It offers an exceptional degree of privacy. Each suite overlooks the Bay of Kavala and the magnificent interior gardens, replete with water features. Outdoor living is central to the design. There is summer and winter outdoor seating, alongside a private daybed, with the Imaret’s vaulted arcades naturally sheltering guests year-round.
The Food & Drink
Dinner is served in a different setting each evening. The kitchen sources strictly seasonal produce and vegetables grown in its gardens, purchasing nothing beyond a 50-kilometer radius. The menus are based on historical recipes from the Imaret’s archives, including Persian dishes from the 12th century. The cuisine, in Anna’s words, “reflects Levantine and Ottoman court traditions, influenced by Byzantine, Anatolian, and classical French techniques, grounded in the rich culinary heritage of Thrace.”
