The Postcard Cuelim is the Most Storied Hotel Along India’s South Goan Coast

A six-room Goan mansion built around a 350-year-old chapel trades beach-club energy for Portuguese history and paddy-field quiet.

Hotel Snapshot

Once a mansion belonging to Dr. Tristão de Bragança Cunha, also known as the “Father of Goan Liberation,” The Postcard Cuelim is an intimate hotel that leaves an impact on all who are lucky enough to stay within its storied walls. There are just six rooms across the property, which is entirely anchored around a 350-year-old chapel and immersed in 3,500 acres of emerald paddy fields.

It’s timeless, elegant, and rich with Portuguese influence, offering a stark contrast to the image often short-sidedly associated with India.

Design & Character

The atmosphere is quiet and peaceful, so don’t expect late nights or loud guests. Every square inch feels steeped in the past, with vintage wallpaper, elegant crystal sconces, and antique furnishings.

The historic chapel is the property’s crown jewel, and stained glass windows throughout pay homage to its significance. Sweeping verandas and tranquil gardens capture a slower, more authentic side of Goa far removed from the crowded beach circuits.

The Rooms

With just six rooms across the entire hotel, it doesn’t get more boutique than this. The most basic accommodation is a luxury room with an accompanying patio, where 200-year-old coconut trees set the scene.

The first-floor Cuelim Suite features baroque bones with colonial accents, while the Premier Suite is decidedly Portuguese. The Dr. TB Cunha Suite occupies the prominent figure’s actual former bedroom and includes a sit-out terrace overlooking the village and nearby Three Kings Chapel.

The Food & Drink

Guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner on property, along with 24-hour room service. Fish, curry, and rice appear across a variety of dishes, with international options also available. If nothing on the menu appeals, the chefs are happy to customize a meal.

The Amenities

The outdoor pool offers relief from the Indian heat, while a badminton court, old-school billiards room, and well-stocked library add low-key diversions. Standard offerings include high-speed Wi-Fi, complimentary bike rentals, and attentive concierge service.

Location & Neighborhood Recs

The coast is a 15-minute walk away. The hotel can also organize guided outings, including surfing lessons, visits to the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, and cycling tours.
