In New York City, it’s hard to escape cool landmarks and iconic buildings. But in the heart of the Lower East Side, Nine Orchard is the epitome of both. Located just off Canal Street on the quiet corner of Orchard Street, it’s a retreat that celebrates the beauty of lower Manhattan. Like many of the city’s structures, Nine Orchard’s story is brimming with historical significance. Though the hotel was established in 2022, the original building was constructed in 1912 and was the home of the Jarmulowsky Bank. Today, the 83,000-square-foot splendor houses luxury suites, dreamy decor, and one of the most noteworthy cocktail bars in the city.

Restoring the landmark tower wasn’t an easy feat. A skillful team of architectural historians and interior designers worked meticulously to bring the building back to life. The result is a modern oasis that maintains much of the original architecture and neo-Renaissance design.

Nine Orchard’s grandeur isn’t lost on anyone who strolls through its quaint lobby doors. As the doorman greets you, you’re instantly transported to a time past. The wallpapered entryway, charming furniture that feels cozy yet undeniably chic, and the wood-paneled reception desk that was once the bank teller station are just a few of the inviting elements that make the hotel special.

The lobby is just the beginning. Upstairs, each of the 113 rooms offers a stylish sanctuary with homey touches. The furniture, custom-made by renowned downtown carpenter Tyler Hays, is a mélange of European antiques and contemporary pieces. Hardwood floors, restored moldings, and large windows keep the rooms sun-drenched and warm.

Despite the lived-in feel of your room, you’ll want to explore both of the hotel’s culinary offerings. The Corner Bar is a hidden-gem eatery inspired by stylish taverns, with comfort foods and traditional bistro dishes such as the famed Corner Bar burger and stacked club sandwich.

Then there is the Swan Room, housed in the bank’s former lobby. It is the destination for a glamorous atmosphere and impeccable libations, from classic cocktails and modern riffs to fancy bar snacks displayed in silver hors d’oeuvre holders.
