Hotel Snapshot
On an island that draws stylish day-trippers from Ibiza for long lunches and perfect sandy beaches, Mar Suites Formentera goes one step further - creating a hotel that becomes the reason you stay.
Set in Es Pujols, the liveliest village on Formentera's northern coast, this 31-suite boutique property opened in 2023 with strong bones: gorgeous design, a genuinely warm team, and a location five minutes' walk from some of the most startlingly clear water in the Mediterranean.
This season, it has raised its own bar. A new gastronomic programme, expanded wellness offering, and a weekly evening series of music, cocktails, and sharing plates have given Mar Suites the feel of a polished boutique hotel without losing the island’s unhurried soul.

Design & Character
The aesthetic here is Balearic vernacular done with real restraint; the entrance sets the tone immediately with pale stone, natural fibres, and soft sand-coloured walls. It feels deliberately understated in the way many Mediterranean luxury hotels aspire to be but rarely pull off convincingly. You’ll find juniper wood, sisal rope, wooden reeds – all materials lifted directly from Formentera's traditional architecture, deployed without nostalgia or over-styling. The grounds are sandy underfoot near the pool, which sounds like a minor detail until you find yourself at breakfast or having a cocktail with your feet literally in the sand, and realise it's changed the entire register of the day.
Guests wander around in oversized linen shirts carrying woven beach baskets supplied by the hotel, stopping at the pool bar for iced coffees before heading out to Platja des Pujols. The pool itself is less scene-y than serene: low loungers, soft music, and enough corners to disappear into with a paperback and a second coffee. There’s no Balearic bravado here, just the low hum of cicadas, the soft rattle of scooters weaving towards the beach, and the occasional clink of ice in a perfectly cold hierbas spritz.

The Rooms
There are 31 suites across several categories that are spacious, quietly luxurious, and surprisingly thoughtful in the details. Some come with private gardens and plunge pools; others feature rooftop jacuzzis or terraces designed for late-night stargazing. Interiors continue the same warm Mediterranean palette seen throughout the property - creamy whites, textured linens, and natural wood softened by ambient lighting. Bathrooms are generously sized and boast high-quality hair tools and amenities - a small but surprisingly appreciated touch after days spent in saltwater and sun. The Studio Suites are the most compact option, but no less considered, with terraces, private pools, and a sense of calm proportion. Premium two-bedroom configurations are available for those who want space and complete privacy in equal measure.

Food & Drink
At the centre is Es Garrover, the hotel’s open-air restaurant, where meals unfold slowly beneath shaded canopies and softly swaying greenery. The menu leans Mediterranean with a contemporary edge: red prawn crudo, ceviche bright with citrus, grilled fish, seasonal rice dishes, and plates designed for sharing between sun-drunk friends lingering over another bottle of chilled white wine (don’t miss the house paella). Breakfast is poolside, feet in the sand, and features a generous spread of fruit, pastries, eggs, and excellent coffee.
From May onwards, the hotel introduces Nits d’es Garrover, weekly evenings pairing cocktails, live music, and a curated three-course menu. It feels very Formentera in spirit: unfussy, intimate, and built around extending the evening rather than turning dinner into an event. The hotel’s relationship with nearby beach club Chezz Gerdi also adds another layer to the dining experience. Just a short walk away on the seafront, it’s the sort of place where lunch quietly morphs into aperitivo hour as the sky turns apricot over the water.
